South Jersey Ad Agency Leaving Suburbia for Center City

One of the Philadelphia region's largest advertising agencies will relocate its headquarters from Cherry Hill to Center City, bringing with it up to 100 jobs (see story). The Star Group intends to spend $5 million to purchase and refurbish a five-story building at 1635-37 Locust Street. The Star Group also has offices in Las Vegas (NV) and Kansas City (MO), both of which service casino clients.

I infer from the article that the ad agency might be motivated in part by the fact that legalized gambling will be coming to Philadelphia soon--perhaps as early as 2006.

If there is a real causual connection here, that would be a positive for Pennsylvania gaming. There will inevitably be both positives and negatives, and it will be the duty of both public and private sectors to make the most out of the positives and do whatever is possible to minimize the effect of the negatives.

The last sentence is a great summation of what PA gaming policy should be.
