School District Establishes Center City Region

The School District of Philadelphia – led by the visionary CEO Paul Vallas - has established a 10th, separate region for Center City that includes all public elementary, middle and high schools in the area circumscribed by Poplar Street, Washington Avenue, and the Delaware and Schuylkill Rivers. This initiative is a collaborative effort of the Center City District and Philadelphia School District designed to improve public school options for Center City residents through marketing campaigns, expansion of school choice programs and infrastructure improvements. I'm confused -- this Center City Schools site already existed. Is the new thing that you aren't assigned to a school but rank your top choices? That seems good, but might or might not work out well (if the demand is not well distributed).

One good thing about this site is that you can look at a map, find out where the schools are and what kind each is, and get a direct contact link to that school. A year ago I spent hours online just trying to figure out which schools were close to us, let alone anything else about them... Progress! :)
