I visited Hershey in the 1970s, when it was still managed by the family or an entity stemming from it: the town looked scrubbed and clean. And the Hershey Medical Center, though now a part of Penn State, was founded by Milton Hershey, and is well known in the area. The relation between American business and philanthropy is a chapter in itself. As for chocolates and health, some studies have concluded that dark chocolate, like red wine, benefits the heart--in moderation of course. But the trans-fats in a good deal of confectionery can be damaging.
